Teresa Poole

Having trained as a decorative painter with designer Thomas Messel in the 1980s, Teresa Poole learnt techniques that have followed her through life, gilding, marbling, verse eglomise, and grisaille murals. She then moved to london and specialised in restoring and painting oriental screens and lacquer. She has travelled internationally with murals and art collections on the QE2, in Italy, Australia, Amsterdam, Ibiza and a collection of murals in Florida USA. She also has artwork and murals more locally at Calcot Manor, the Mahal restaurant and Cotswold Grange hotel in Cheltenham

Drawn to Japanese and oriental art and inspired by iconic artists Daquian and Tohaku. Poole delves in to beauty and balance and the effect it has on the viewer, taking the onlooker to another world inspired by glowing gold leafed screens and delicate sumi ink art on washi paper. Trying to capture the energy and beauty of our interactions with nature and the environment. Poole’s work is a reflection of memories and emotions, of places glimpsed or visited, sometimes in the flesh but often in the imagination. Although still visually decorative she brings a vibrant dichotomy of east and western visuals with soul and a joi de vivre.

Nowadays Poole works more organically either starting with an abstract image and taking the image to a more traditional place, or the opposite; beginning with a traditional Japanese composition culminating in the slightly more abstract but using symbols and nature to bring the images together

She works from Victoria works studios in Stroud and takes commissions.
