Resident's news
Our residents are busy working artist with lots of events and exhibitions planned for the year, here’s a little taster of what some of them are up to:
Akiyama Naoko (Studio 2), one half of Gourd and Horse with orchid grower Ben Adams, will be exhibiting at the Bristol Rare Plant and Orchid Fair on Saturday 18th April. This is a great chance to see Aki’s signature three-legged plant pots, perfectly designed to showcase a beautiful selection of Japanese orchids - including the elegant Vanda falcata (“Fuukiran / 富貴蘭 ”) and the graceful Dendrobium moniliforme (“Chouseiran / 長生蘭 ”). There will be over 15 UK specialist growers at the event and star exhibitors such as Jekka’s Herb Garden - it’s sure to be a fun day. The show takes place on Saturday 18th April, 10am - 5pm at St Phillip and St Jacob Church, Bristol, BS2 0ET (Tickets £5)
Lizzie Mabley (Studio 4) joins photographer Britt Willoughby and painter Juliet Harmer for ‘Serendipity’, a new exhibition at 3 Storeys in Nailsworth. This is a great chance to see Lizzie’s hand printed and stitched quilt from last years Crafts Alive/Victoria Works Studios collaboration, plus lots of lovely new work. If you can get your hands on a copy of this month’s Country Life magazine you’ll also find a lovely feature on the artists inside. The exhibition runs from April 14th to 19th at The Setting Gallery, Three Storeys, Nailsworth.
Silversmith Zoe Watts (studio 17) is working on this stunning commission for New College Oxford. The college has a notable collection of silverware and endeavours to commission leading British silversmiths to add to this. The beautiful Owl motif on this water beaker is created using the technique of hand chasing and repousse and uses the very same tools used for mark making that Zoe uses to teach in our silversmithing workshops.
Pascale Stanley (Studio16) launched her new jewellery range in early March. There will be a shop update coming in the first week of March, then your first opportunity to view in person at Stroud Farmer's Market on Saturday 7th March, why not head down there to check it out? Or If you'd like a early access to the online shop you can join Pascale’s mailing list here
