Learn the art of sgraffito. In this half day taster class artist and ceramic sculpture tutor, Emily Joy, will teach you the basics of this lovely decorative technique.

You’ll create a collection of tiles using porcelain paperclay, then coat the tiles with a layer of coloured slip. Once dry Emily will take you through the process of sgraffito – scratching through the layer of slip to reveal the contrasting colour of the clay beneath. Your designs can be delicate and detailed, or energetic and expressive – Please feel free to bring along ideas of your own but your tutor Emily will bring plenty of designs and ideas, including paper stencils to work with.

At the end of the workshop, your tiles will be carefully dried, and kiln fired. They will be ready to collect from Victoria Works Studios in 3 weeks’ time.

This workshop is suitable for all abilities. All materials provided.
